Central Africa encompasses a huge expanse of territory of more than 7.7 million square kilometers stretching from the Sahara in the north to the Kalahari Desert in the south. This geopolitical region includes Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda, Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
