In view of the African origin of so many Americans bearing British and other European surnames it is appropriate to provide an overview of (sur)names that were brought to North America from Africa mostly in the second half of the 20th century and in the beginning of the 21st century. This was after the US Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 repealed the national immigration quotas which favored immigration from Northern and Western Europe and severely restricted immigration from other parts of the world, including Africa.... ...
