William Fleetwood Sheppard

Australian mathematician, barrister, and civil servant whose education and career was in England. Sheppard graduated in mathematics from Cambridge U in 1884 and trained as a barrister. He joined the Education Department of the Civil Service in 1896. It was at this time that Sheppard worked on correlation and on the corrections that bear his name. Sheppard was President of the Mathematical Association in 1928 and was appointed FRSE in 1932.
