British dancer. She studied at the Royal Ballet School and joined the Royal Ballet in 1962 where she became principal in 1969. Much of her work was with the touring company and she created roles in many works, but in 1973 she joined London Festival Ballet in order to dance classic roles, such as Aurora in Nureyev's staging of Sleeping Beauty. She also created several leading roles including Hynd's The Sanguine Fan (1976). She was ballet mistress at LFB (1983–5) then at Paris Opera (1986–96), after which she worked freelance as teacher and repetiteur. She was also acting director at La Scala (1999–2000).
