plasma

Material in a hot, almost completely ionized state, and thus consisting of atomic nuclei and electrons. Often described as the fourth state of matter (after solids, liquids, and gases), because of its highly specific properties. It occurs (inter alia) throughout the Sun, as the solar wind, and in lightning channels.
