Ouen (Audoin, Owen), St , bishop of Rouen

The Oxford Dictionary of the Middle Ages

Ouen (Audoin, Owen), St , bishop of Rouen (c.610–84)

Author of the Vita S. Eligii, although it was probably reworked by a later Carolingian hand. As the Vita tells us, Ouen spent a holy life with his intimate friend St *Eligius, later bishop of Noyon, at the courts of Clothair II (584–628) and *Dagobert I. Attracted at an early age by the spirituality of St *Columban, both Ouen and Eligius were instrumental in spreading the influence of Columbanian *monasticism throughout northern Francia.
