Make in India Initiative

An initiative of the Indian government launched in 2014 to encourage manufacturing within India by both domestic and foreign firms. The emphasis is on skill development, innovation, and job creation within 25 manufacturing sectors. The initiative has been coupled with an updating of policies and processes to make doing business in India easier. A key initiative has been the relaxation of caps on foreign investment in a number of sectors including defence, medical devices, and railway infrastructure. A number of significant international companies, including Sony, Boeing, Lenovo, and Foxconn, have indicated their intention to increase investment under the initiative.
