Peter Enderwick

emerging market (emerging economy)

A country enjoying an above-average economic growth rate and experiencing structural change in progressing towards advanced economic development. Changes include the move from dependence on agriculture towards manufacturing or services, growing urbanization, and the emergence of a consumer middle class. While offering considerable economic opportunities, emerging markets are generally characterized by higher levels of risk.
