October 2007 Update
This update to Oxford Reference Online: Premium Collection is the biggest yet! There are no less than seven superb new Oxford titles and four new editions.
History content is enhanced with three new titles. The history of black people in Britain, from Roman times to the present day, is detailed in the newly published Oxford Companion to Black British History, and the histories of Ireland and Scotland are explored in The Oxford Companion to Irish History and The Oxford Companion to Scottish History.
Art is also well represented with The Oxford Dictionary of American Art and Artists, which focuses on art in America.
UK law enforcement and the role and function of the High Court of Australia are dealt with in The Oxford Dictionary of Law Enforcement and The Oxford Companion to the High Court of Australia, both titles adding valuable legal content to the Premium Collection.
A Dictionary of Environment and Conservation details the social and scientific aspects of environmental science and conservation, further enhancing the Premium Collection’s excellent science content.
New Functionality
Also new with this update is the next step in linking together all the biographical entries in the Premium Collection, with 5,000+ new links added. Now it is even easier to explore the people in the Premium Collection from different contexts, and really explore the wealth of biographical content. As well as linking entries within the Premium Collection, subscribers will also be offered links to biographies in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography Online, and the American National Biography Online*. This is an ongoing programme, and many thousands more links will be added in forthcoming updates.
In addition, entries for the chemical elements have now been linked together. Along with the links from the entry on the Periodic Table in the Dictionary of Chemistry to the entries on the elements in the dictionary, and from there to similar entries in other titles, it's easy to navigate around core chemistry content.
