What's more, Oxford Reference Online features a unique Cross-reference tool which enables the user to highlight any word or group of words from within an entry and search across the entire database.
  • A quick search option is available from every web page so that it is possible to search the whole database wherever you are on the site
  • Use advanced search to outline your search in greater detail
    • Choose boolean search to find all references to Cubism except those featuring Picasso
    • Using extended search, a search for state will also find land, nation, province, states, etc
    • A pattern search enables you to find misspelled words or words with a similar spelling - for example liason will find liaison
    • Specify your search further by using the date or people filters
    • Search results can be ordered and refined in numerous ways - by relevance, by size of entry, by book title or alphabetically
    • You can search the database as a whole, or restrict your search to one or more subjects, or to one or more individual books
